Inventors include T. Asha; S. Fathima Hazeeral; S. Harini Shree; Vivekanandha College Of Engineering For Women; Dr. R. Kavitha; Mrs. G. Rajeswari; and Mrs. S. Saranya.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to optical sensing and water-quality monitoring, and discloses an inline system for continuous detection of microplastics in flowing water. Water passes through a flow-through optical chamber (2) from a water inlet unit (1), where dual-wavelength LED light sources (3) at about 450 nm and 620 nm, a primary polarizer (4), and a secondary cross polarizer (6) arranged at about 90 degrees enhance scattered-light discrimination at a microplastic detection zone (5). A high- sensitivity photodiode receiver (7) converts the scattered optical response into an electrical signal, which is conditioned by a signal conditioning circuit (8) and processed by an ESP32 microcontroller unit (9) to determine presence and approximate concentration of microplastics. Processed data are transmitted through a Wi-Fi communication module (10) to a cloud database (11), displayed on a web monitoring dashboard (12), and used to trigger a mobile alert system (13). The system provides low-cost, portable, real-time monitoring. Fig. 1 best characterises the invention.
