Abstract: ABSTRACT A System and Method for GMSK - Level Shifted ASK Composite Digital Modulation and Demodulation The present invention relates to a system and method for GMSK-Level Shifted ASK composite digital modulation and demodulation for simultaneously transmitting two independent digital information signals through a common carrier. A first digital information signal is Gaussian-filtered and GMSK modulated to generate a waveform having a substantially constant envelope. A second independent digital information signal is level-shifted into predetermined positive amplitude levels and multiplied with the GMSK waveform to generate a composite transmitted signal. The first digital information signal is thereby conveyed through phase or frequency characteristics, while the second digital information signal is conveyed through amplitude characteristics of the composite signal. At a receiver, I/Q demodulation and envelope detection recover the second digital information signal, following which the corresponding amplitude component is removed to reconstruct the GMSK waveform. GMSK demodulation of the reconstructed waveform subsequently recovers the first digital information signal.
