Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for forecasting carbon emission intensity using financial performance variables. The system comprises a data ingestion module to acquire financial and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data from one or more data sources, perform schema-level validation of firm identifiers, reporting dates, currency conventions, and emission units, and generate standardized datasets; a data preprocessing module transforms provider-exported data into structured firm-year panel observations, validates revenue and emission records, computes carbon emission intensity, performs missing-value imputation, and eliminates invalid observations; a machine learning to train and deploy a predictive model capable of identifying non-linear relationships and interactions among financial performance variables without requiring a predefined functional form; and output module to generates forecasted carbon emission intensity values for new firm-year observations and provides model interpretability through feature importance analysis to identify the financial variables having the greatest influence on prediction outcomes. The proposed system enables accurate, repeatable, auditable, and interpretable forecasting of carbon emission intensity, thereby improving ESG assessment and sustainability monitoring, particularly where historical emission data are incomplete, inconsistent, or unavailable.
