Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EXTENDING FLOW TABLES IN A SOFTWARE DEFINED NETWORKING (SDN) SWITCHES The present invention provides a novel and system for extending flow tables in SDN switches using a multi-table configuration combined with a Least Recently Used (LRU) caching mechanism. The system employs a primary table for learning new flow entries and a secondary table as a cache, periodically updated to retain frequently used entries. Implemented with Mininet and the Ryu controller, this method demonstrated a high cache hit rate of approximately 90%, reduced latency to an average of 20 milliseconds, and increased throughput to 90 packets per second under various traffic conditions. This approach significantly reduces controller interactions, enhancing overall network efficiency and scalability.
