Abstract: An electroencephalogram signal processing system 101 and method that compute a phase–amplitude coupling metric. The electroencephalogram signal processing system 101 acquires multi-channel EEG via an electroencephalogram acquisition unit 301 and digitizes signals via signal conversion unit 303. A signal processing unit 305 extracts lower- and higher-frequency bands and a phase– amplitude analysis unit 307 derives instantaneous phase and amplitude. A signal segmentation unit 309 partitions amplitudes and phases into discrete segments; an angular histogram generation unit 311 assembles per-amplitude phase-referenced distributions; a distance computation module 313 evaluates deviation from a uniform reference and a normalization and aggregation unit 315 produces a bounded coupling score. An output interface 317 provides the metric and metadata for storage or transmission. The electroencephalogram signal processing system 101 preserves amplitude–phase co-occurrence structure while remaining numerically stable and suitable for hardware-assisted, low-latency implementation.
