Abstract: An electrocardiogram-based atrial fibrillation risk prediction system (100) and method (300) are disclosed. The system (100) includes an electrocardiogram acquisition unit (102) configured to acquire a 12-lead electrocardiogram signal from a subject for a predefined recording duration of 10 seconds, a processor (106), and a memory (108). The processor (106) receives a raw digital electrocardiogram signal and generates a normalized multichannel electrocardiogram signal by performing baseline drift removal, power-line interference removal, and lead-wise amplitude normalization. The processor (106) further executes a convolutional feature extraction operation to obtain morphological features across 12 leads, followed by a temporal feature aggregation operation to derive features representative of successive cardiac cycles. A recurrent processing operation is performed to obtain rhythm variation features, based on which a probability score is generated. The probability score indicates a risk of intermittent atrial fibrillation even when the electrocardiogram signal exhibits normal sinus rhythm during the predefined recording duration.
