Abstract: The invention relates to image security for Internet of Things surveillance, and particularly to a Raspberry Pi implemented system and method for real-time or near-real- time DNA-based image encryption and decryption. A user-provided secret key is processed by a SHA-256 hashing component to obtain a 256-bit hash, which is converted by a DNA nucleotide mapping component into a 128-nucleotide DNA sequence and remapped from the first 64 nucleotides to derive a 128-bit secret key. An original image is converted to binary, divided into 16-byte segments, and each segment is encrypted by bitwise XOR using the derived 128-bit secret key, followed by transposition of nucleotide sequences, bit-pairs, bytes, or blocks to generate an encrypted image for secure IoT transmission. At a receiving side, the same key is regenerated, reverse transposition is applied, XOR recovery is performed, and the image is reconstructed, thereby enabling lightweight secure surveillance image protection on embedded hardware.
