Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CARBON DIOXIDE CAPTURE, MINERALIZATION, AND RESOURCE RECOVERY FROM SALINE BRINE The present invention relates to a system and method for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture, mineralization, and resource recovery from saline or hypersaline brine. The system comprises an electrolyzer configured to generate an alkaline hydroxide-rich stream and an acidified divalent cation-rich stream. Carbon dioxide is captured through multiple pathways, including carbonation of the hydroxide-rich stream to produce sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, mineralization of divalent cations to form calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, and recovery of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) from the acidified stream. A degassing module converts dissolved inorganic carbon species into molecular carbon dioxide and recovers the carbon dioxide for reuse in downstream mineralization processes. The system further enables the generation of calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, thereby facilitating integrated carbon capture, mineralization, carbon dioxide recycling, and resource recovery in a substantially closed-loop and reduced-waste process.
