MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541060760 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on December 25, 2025, for A System And Method For Bidirectional Signal Isolation Using Optical Isolation And Mode Switching.
Inventors include Srikar Bharadwaj R; Yashwanth Reddy A; and Ishwar Bhiradi.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for bidirectional signal isolation over a single communication channel using optical components and mode switching logic. It eliminates the need for dual optocouplers, splitters, and combiners, simplifying hardware design while maintaining high-voltage isolation up to 5kV. The system enables reliable communication between master and slave devices in half-duplex protocols such as I2C and UART, operating efficiently with low-voltage control signals (3.3V/5V). Optical isolation using IR LEDs ensures accurate signal replication and enhanced integrity. The system is compact, cost-effective, and reduces signal noise, offering a high-performance alternative to traditional isolation methods. (FIG. 3)
