MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521002600 A) filed by Ranjana Agrawal; and Sucheta Kulkarni on January 18, 2025, for A System And Method For Automated Analysis Of Retinal Images Associated With Retinopathy Of Prematurity.
Inventors include Ranjana Agrawal; and Sucheta Kulkarni.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The invention provides an automated and explainable system for image-based analysis of retinal fundus images associated with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). The system integrates advanced image processing techniques, including segmentation of the optic disc, retinal blood vessels, and ridge structures, to generate retinal zone classifications, ridge stage patterns, and vascular severity patterns from fundus image data. By automating these structure-aware analyses and providing real-time explainable visual outputs, the system reduces analytical variability and subjectivity in retinal image interpretation and supports clinician-assisted retinal assessment. The scalable and adaptable design enables deployment across diverse healthcare environments, including telemedicine platforms for remote retinal image review. This image-based analytical framework bridges the gap between manual fundus image interpretation and automated retinal condition analysis, improving access to consistent, high-quality retinal image evaluation and supporting efficient clinical workflows.
