MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611056497 A) filed by Graphic Era Deemed To Be University on May 04, 2026, for A System And Method For Ai-Based Identification And Triboelectric Electrostatic Separation Of Mixed Plastic Waste.
Inventors include Man Vir Singh; and Subham Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to automated waste-sorting systems, and particularly to a system and method for AI-based identification and triboelectric electrostatic separation of mixed plastic waste. Mixed plastic articles are fed by a feeding and conveying unit, imaged by an imaging unit with optional multi-sensor identification enhancement elements, and classified by an AI-based identification unit to generate polymer class labels, confidence scores, and position coordinates. A conveyor speed sensing and timing reference arrangement and a position tracking and synchronization module predict arrival time and downstream location while compensating for processing and actuation latency. A triboelectric charging unit imparts charge to articles, and an electrostatic separation unit having a high-voltage electrode assembly applies adaptive voltage magnitude and polarity selected by a control and processing unit. Charged articles are thereby deflected into respective bins of a collection and storage unit, with optional feedback monitoring enabling dynamic process optimization and AI recalibration.
