MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621082279 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Indore on July 03, 2026, for A System And Method For Aerial Threat Detection, Classification, And Tracking.

Inventors include Lt Col. Manas Bajpai; and Prof. Santosh Kumar Vishvakarma.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AERIAL THREAT DETECTION, CLASSIFICATION, AND TRACKING The invention relates to edge artificial intelligence systems for aerial threat surveillance, and more particularly to an FPGA-based edge computing platform having a Processing System and a Programmable Logic architecture for multi-modal fusion of acoustic, optical, and RF sensor data. An acoustic sensing subsystem performs Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients extraction and Mel spectrogram analysis to generate acoustic observations and an acoustic confidence value. An optical sensing subsystem uses electro-optical camera modules, video preprocessing, and optimized and quantized deep neural network models executed on FPGA-resident Deep Processing Units to generate object detection, classification, localization, tracking, and an optical confidence value. An RF sensing subsystem processes Software Defined Radio receiver data for spectrum monitoring, signal classification, RF fingerprinting, and communication analysis to generate RF observations and an RF confidence value. A confidence-based sensor fusion engine correlates temporally synchronized outputs to compute a unified threat confidence score for autonomous detection, classification, prioritization, tracking, and alerting of aerial threats.
