Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ADAPTING PANORAMIC IMAGES FOR WEATHER-ADAPTIVE VIRTUAL REALITY ENVIRONMENTS The present disclosure envisages a system (100) for adapting panoramic images for weather-adaptive virtual reality environments. An input module (102) receives an equirectangular panoramic image (120) and a contextual query comprising a location and a date. A pre-processing module (104) normalizes the image and applies seam-safe circular padding to generate a padded panoramic image (122). A climate data retrieval module (106) converts the location into geographical coordinates and retrieves climate data using a multi-horizon retrieval strategy. A weather classification module (108) maps meteorological variables to a discrete weather type and a continuous intensity value using rule-based classification. A rendering module (110) applies procedural weather effects, modulated by the intensity value, to the padded image. A restoration module (112) removes the padding to generate a weather-adapted panoramic image (124), rendered by a visualization module (116) on a virtual reality head-mounted display.
