MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511011965 A) filed by Birla Institute Of Technology & Science Bits, Pilani on February 12, 2025, for A System And A Method For Optimizing Signal Transmission In A Wireless Communication Network.
Inventors include Joshi, Sandeep; Aserkar, Akshay Manish; Mukherjee, Prateek; Agarwal, Rishi; and Kabra, Vedant.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The disclosed system (100) comprises a transmitter (102), a receiver, and an Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) (106) having a plurality of functional elements. A control unit (108) in communication with the transmitter (102), the IRS (106), and the receiver (104), and comprises a processor. The processor is configured to receive channel coefficients hn and gn, for a communication path between the transmitter (102), the IRS (106), and the receiver (104), based on incident waves on the IRS, and identify a dominant transmission direction between the transmitter (102), the IRS (106), and the receiver (104). The processor selects a phase value corresponding to a maximum reflection coefficient, and configure each of the functional elements using the selected phase value, to modify the phase and the magnitude of the incident waves to maximize a signal strength at the receiver (104).
