Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for secure dispensing of medical items using a mobile primary health care facility. The system includes a vehicle based platform including addressable electronic storage compartments having an electronically controlled locking mechanism, an RFID interrogating antenna, a weight sensing unit, and a door status sensing unit. A transaction integrity control unit receives the doctor authorized dispensing instruction, identifies the compartment that contains the authorized medical item and determines the pre-access and post access states of the identified compartment based on RFID, weight, and door status data. The control unit controls the operation of the RFID antenna of the selected compartment relative to the adjacent compartments in order to minimize the cross-reading, authenticates the authorized health care worker, unlocks the selected compartment and identifies the physical dispensing state transition. The transaction process is completed and inventory database entry is updated only if the detected item and quantity match the authorized instruction. Fig. 3
