MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541016927 A) filed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited on February 26, 2025, for A System And A Method For Controlling Air Intake In An Internal Combustion (ic) Engine.

Inventors include Chinmayananda Khandai; S. Ravi Teja; Patil Yogesh Jagannath; and M. Muralidharan Application Number.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: A system (100) and a method (300) to control air intake for an internal combustion (IC) engine (200) includes an intake manifold (102) defining an unidirectional intake passage to allow airflow into the engine cylinder (202) and resist reverse of airflow during a compression stroke of the engine (200). The system (100) includes an electronic control unit (ECU) (104) operatively coupled an actuator (106) or valve (108,110). The ECU (104) configured upon monitoring engine parameters to switch between a first operating mode where intake air is allowed through the unidirectional intake passage into the engine cylinder (202) while the engine (200) being operating at low speeds, and a second operating mode where the intake air is permitted to bypass or neutralize a unidirectional flow control element to reduce intake restriction at high speeds.
