MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611087963 A) filed by Graphic Era Deemed To Be University on July 18, 2026, for A Synthetic Blood Composition, System And Method For Nanomaterial Hemocompatibility And Toxicity Evaluation.

Inventors include Munzir Akhtar; Abhilasha Mishra; and Akash Nautiyal.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to in vitro biomaterials and nanotoxicology evaluation, and provides a synthetic blood composition, system, and preparation and testing method for assessing hemocompatibility and toxicity of a test nanomaterial or engineered nanostructure. The composition comprises a synthetic plasma containing albumin, polyethylene glycol, dextran, an electrolyte system, and artificially designed clotting factors, in which artificial erythrocytes comprising hemoglobin-encapsulated hydrogel microcapsules and polymeric microspheres, artificial leukocyte analogs comprising functionalized hydrogel particles, and synthetic thrombocyte-like microparticles are suspended. Compared with conventional simplified media or isolated blood fractions, the invention provides a modular multi-component blood- mimetic environment that better simulates plasma interactions, corpuscle-like interactions, oxygen-transport analog compatibility, immune-type responses, and coagulation kinetics. The invention is principally useful for controlled in vitro screening, comparison, and safety evaluation of nanomaterials for blood-contacting applications.
