Abstract: ABSTRACT Title of Invention: A SPECIES-SPECIFIC MEDIA FOR GROWTH OF FLAVOBACTERIUM COLUMNARE A species-specific media for the growth of Flavobacterium columnareisfor improved methods for isolation, culture and maintenance of F. columnare. The medium is characterized by including select concentrationof tryptone, beef extract, MgSO4 (7H2O), CaCl2 (2H2O), sodium chloride, agar and the addition of antibiotics neomycin and polymyxin B. When streaked with mixed bacterial cultures containing both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, the media promotes the growth and colonization of F. columnarebacteria only and inhibits the growth of the other Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in the culture. DAS media resulted in the fastest proliferation of F. columnar cells in broth, yielding fully developed colonies on inoculated agar. F. columnare. Culture on DAS agar media could be confirmed within 18 h for disease diagnostics. The DAS1 medium is superior for F. columnare culture resulting in rapid uniform growth of the bacterium compared to that of existing media. Fig.3
