Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of heterogeneous catalysis and, more particularly, to catalyst systems comprising a transition metal/mixed metal oxides such as (Cu/Zn/Zr/Ga/Ce) architecture supported on a mixed magnesium-aluminum oxide (MgAlOx) base, derived from a magnesium-aluminum layered (Mg-Al) layered double hydroxide precursor and synthesis methods for the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide (CO2) to methanol. The present invention further relates to copper based multi metal catalysts supported on multilayered structures, prepared via a solvent free mechanochemical (high energy ball milling) synthesis route. In certain embodiments, the catalyst system further comprises additional metals selected from zirconium, gallium, cerium, or combinations thereof to modulate thermal properties, enhance metal dispersion, and improve CO2 activation efficiency. The field encompasses sustainable methanol production, CO2 utilization technologies, catalytic material design, and advanced catalyst manufacturing methods aimed at improving activity, selectivity, and long term stability under industrial operating conditions.
