MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611109042 A) filed by Graphic Era Deemed To Be University on September 11, 2026, for A Solid-State Microalgae Bioreactor System And Method For Indoor Carbon Dioxide Reduction.

Inventors include Vedant Kumar Gupta; and Dr. Royal Madan.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to indoor air treatment and carbon dioxide reduction using a solid-state microalgae bioreactor system and method. The system employs living Chlorella vulgaris cells immobilized in an Algae-In-Alginate matrix of sodium alginate beads cross-linked with CaCl2, optionally arranged in a honeycomb architecture, within a housing having a front intake region and an upper outlet. An airflow generation assembly moves room air through the hydrated matrix, a hydration assembly maintains moisture without a pump, and an illumination assembly with PAR LED emissions at 450 nm and 660 nm supports photosynthetic assimilation of carbon dioxide. A sensing assembly monitors ambient carbon dioxide concentration, temperature, and humidity, and an electronic controller actuates illumination and regulates airflow in response to sensed carbon dioxide, including threshold-based operation above about 800 ppm. The invention provides improved indoor carbon dioxide reduction in a compact, rehydratable, energy-efficient unit for occupied indoor spaces.
