MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641042142 A) filed by Dr. N. G. P. Institute Of Technology on April 01, 2026, for A Solar Tree.

Inventors include Dr. Prabha, Subramaniam Umapathy; Dr. Ramash Kumar, Kuppan; Sanjay, Rajkumar; Kavibharathi, Boopathi; and Rithanyaa, C Palanisamy.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a solar tree (1) comprising a base structure (7), a central support structure (2), a plurality of branch assemblies (3), photovoltaic panels (6), a power management unit (11), an energy storage unit (14), and a lighting unit (21). The branch assemblies (3) are arranged around the central support structure (2) in a Fibonacci spiral configuration and an opposite spiralling phyllotaxy arrangement to provide multidirectional orientation of the photovoltaic panels (6), thereby substantially reducing self-shadowing and improving solar energy harvesting. The power management unit (11) includes a charge controller (13), preferably an MPPT charge controller, configured to regulate charging of the energy storage unit (14), which supplies power to the lighting unit (21) during low or no solar irradiance. The invention provides a compact, standalone, solar-powered street lighting system with improved energy generation efficiency and reduced installation footprint.
