Abstract: The present invention relates to a solar powered smart dustbin for real-time waste and gas smell detection. The system comprises dual smart dustbin units for independent monitoring of dry and wet waste using integrated sensors interfaced with an ESP8266-based microcontroller. The system monitors waste fill level using an ultrasonic sensor, gas and odor presence using an MQ135 gas sensor, lid status using a push-button mechanism, and battery status through power management circuitry. A solar panel with battery backup, supported by buck and boost converters, ensures uninterrupted outdoor operation. All sensor data is transmitted to a cloudbased real- time database and displayed on a web dashboard with graphical analysis. Historical data is analyzed to predict the time required for the dustbin to reach full capacity and to optimize garbage collection schedules. The proposed system reduces unnecessary vehicle trips, saves fuel and operational costs, and minimizes environmental impact, providing a cost-effective, energyefficient, and scalable smart waste management solution suitable for smart city applications.
