Abstract: The present invention relates to a soil moisture-based smart solar-powered irrigation system that automatically supplies water to crops only when required, by sensing the moisture level of the soil and using solar energy as the power source. The system comprises a solar photovoltaic panel, a solar charge controller, a deep-cycle rechargeable battery, a DC buck converter, a microcontroller unit, a capacitive soil moisture sensor, a relay module, and a DC water pump connected to drip or sprinkler lines. The microcontroller compares the soil moisture content with preset moisture levels programmed for sandy, loamy, or clay soil types, and activates or deactivates the relay module accordingly to switch the pump on or off, forming a closed-loop feedback irrigation system. Optional IoT connectivity via NodeMCU, ESP8266, ESP32, or GSM modules, and a 16x2 LCD display with I2C interface, may also be provided. The invention reduces water wastage, minimizes human effort, improves crop productivity, and is suitable for remote and rural agricultural areas.
