The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart passive atmospheric water harvesting system configured to extract water from ambient air using thermo-responsive hydrogel- based moisture capture and solar-driven regeneration. The system comprises a housing enclosure having a moisture absorption chamber containing one or more desiccant trays loaded with a thermo-responsive hydrogel material. Ambient air is passively circulated through the chamber during night-time conditions to enable moisture adsorption. During daytime operation, solar radiation raises the internal temperature above a lower critical solution temperature of the hydrogel, causing reversible contraction and release of absorbed moisture as liquid water. The released water is condensed and collected through a gravity-assisted arrangement. The system further includes sensor-integrated hardware for regulating airflow and monitoring environmental conditions. The invention operates without active refrigeration or electrical heating and supports modular, off-grid deployment, making it suitable for decentralized water generation in arid and semi-arid regions.
