MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611083735 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on July 08, 2026, for A Smart Ergonomic Monitoring System For Real-Time Posture And Repetitive Strain Injury Detection Using Esp32.

Inventors include Kumar Gourav Behera; and Dr. G. L. Saini.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart ergonomic monitoring system for real-time posture assessment and repetitive strain injury (RSI) detection using an ESP32-based embedded platform. The system comprises an ESP32 38-pin NodeMCU microcontroller configured to acquire posture and movement data from a plurality of sensing elements, process the acquired data using an embedded C++ technology, and determine ergonomically unsafe body positions and repetitive movements. The system further comprises a visual notification unit including a 1.44-inch ST7735 TFT colour display configured to provide real-time ergonomic feedback, a warning unit comprising a buzzer and an LED configured to generate audible and visual alerts upon detection of improper posture or repetitive strain conditions, and a power supply interface configured to receive power through a USB connection. The sensing elements are interfaced with GPIO input ports through adjustable potentiometer-based input circuits for posture and movement simulation or calibration. The TFT display communicates with the ESP32 through a hardware SPI interface for displaying posture status, movement information, and warning messages. The embedded firmware continuously monitors sensor inputs, analyses ergonomic parameters, identifies posture deviations and repetitive strain patterns in real time, and activates the warning mechanisms when predefined thresholds are exceeded. The disclosed system provides a compact, low-cost, portable, and energy-efficient solution for continuous ergonomic monitoring, workplace safety enhancement, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and repetitive strain injuries across industrial, office, educational, and healthcare environments.
