MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611092203 A) filed by Tulas Institute on July 29, 2026, for A Smart Device For Detecting Counterfeit Currency Using Optical Analysis.
Inventors include Dr. Nishant Saxena; and Shuchi Jain.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A smart device detects counterfeit currency by placing a banknote within a controlled optical inspection region and acquiring visible, ultraviolet, and infrared representations. Local processing identifies denomination and orientation, corrects geometric distortion, normalizes optical responses, and evaluates multiple security characteristics. A quality weighted classifier combines spatial, spectral, textural, and substrate related measurements to generate an authentic, suspected counterfeit, or inconclusive result. Adaptive illumination, self-calibration, protected reference data, secure updating, portable power management, and operator guidance improve reliability across varied note conditions and transaction environments.
