Abstract: Disclosed is a Smart Control Box a compact IoT retrofit device for autonomous air quality-based speed regulation of conventional, non-smart air purifiers. The Device comprises an ESP32 S3 microcontroller with integrated Wi Fi, a PM2.5 particulate matter sensor, a three-channel electromechanical relay module, an OLED display, a USB C power input, and a four wire IDC clip harness. The harness connects to the existing button interface connector on the purifier's internal PCB the connector linking the front panel speed buttons to the main control board without any modification to the purifier's hardware or firmware. Each relay channel corresponds to a fan speed level (Low, Medium, High). When energised by the ESP32 S3, a relay's Normally Open contact pair connects a common ground reference to the corresponding speed command signal line, asserting a signal electrically identical to a physical button press. The purifier's internal microcontroller responds to this signal through its existing firmware, adjusting motor speed accordingly. PM2.5 readings are sampled every two seconds; a CPCB aligned threshold algorithm determines the appropriate fan speed and drives the corresponding relay while enforcing 30ms dead time mutual exclusion between relay transitions. The Device detects manual button presses on the purifier's front panel and temporarily suspends automatic control. Wi Fi and MQTT connectivity enable remote monitoring and control. Installation is tool free and completed in 10-15 minutes using a model specific guided mobile application. The invention converts any conventional air purifier into a smart, IoT connected, automatic air quality management appliance without purchase of a new device.
