Abstract: Disclosed herein is a latch assembly (100). The assembly (100) includes a housing (103) formed with a locking hole (122) adapted to receive a locking member (102). A piston (118) slidably disposed in the housing (103) and adapted to move between a locked position and an unlocked position. The piston (118) is adapted to protrude in the locking hole (122) when the piston (118) slides from the unlocked position to the locked position. A Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wire (114) disposed within the housing (103) and coupled to the piston (118), and adapted to move the piston (118) between the locked position and the unlocked position based on flow of current therethrough.
