MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611048476 A) filed by Amita; and Poonam Bansal on April 16, 2026, for A Semi-Autonomous Robotic Arm System And Method For Selective Tea Leaf Plucking.
Inventors include Dr. Amita Dev; Dr. Poonam Bansal; and Suhani.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The invention pertains to a semi-autonomous robotic arm system (20) for selective tea leaf plucking in the field of agricultural robotics and automation. The system comprises a configurable support structure (20) as a wearable backpack or mobile wheeled base, a multi-degree-of-freedom articulated arm with motorized shoulder joint assembly (22), elbow assembly (26) and wrist joint assembly (28), a vision/camera module (32) with high-resolution RGB and optional depth sensor, a path planning unit executing inverse kinematics and reinforcement learning for trajectory optimization, a soft robotic gripper (30) with elastomeric fingers and pressure sensors, a control module with processor and memory, and a power module with rechargeable battery and optional solar charging. The method includes image capture, neural network-based bud detection, coordinate computation, gripper actuation, cluster detachment and GPS-enabled data logging of plucking events.
