MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611091842 A) filed by Chitkara University on July 29, 2026, for A Self-Powered Inline Pipeline Leak Detection And Autonomous Sealing System.
Inventors include Satyajit Anand; Rajneesh Talwar; Manvinder Sharma; and Pardeep Kumar Jindal.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention a self-powered inline pipeline leak detection and autonomous sealing system (100) comprises a tubular housing (102), upstream and downstream pressure sensors (126, 128), flow sensor (130), acoustic sensors (132, 134), and a microcontroller (138). A bypass-mounted micro-turbine rotor (112) drives a generator (116) through a magnetic coupling (114), while a power-management circuit (118) charges supercapacitor (120) and maintains an actuation reserve. The microcontroller (138) time-aligns pressure, flow and acoustic measurements, distinguishes a leak from demand transients, and identifies whether the leak lies within a protected conduit span (108). Upon confirmed localization, latching microvalve (148) admits line pressure into selected circumferential chambers (154) of an annular expandable sleeve (152), pressing the sleeve against the pipe wall while preserving a central flow lumen (158). A downstream isolation valve (160) limits flow when leakage is outside the protected span. Post-actuation verification, self-testing, manual reset interlocking and wireless reporting are provided.
