MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521001490 A) filed by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited on January 07, 2025, for A Seat Belt System For A Vehicle And A Method For Detecting Seat Belt Engagement.

Inventors include Vivek Shinde; and Akshay Jape.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT A SEAT BELT SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE AND A METHOD FOR DETECTING SEAT BELT ENGAGEMENT The present disclosure relates to a field of automobile engineering, particularly to a seat belt system (100) for a vehicle includes a retractor system (101) and a buckle (102). The retractor system comprises a spool member (10) for winding and releasing a seat belt (11) and a locking mechanism (12) with a sprocket (13) connected to the spool member. A rotary disk (14), mounted on the sprocket, houses a plurality of magnets (15) arranged in ascending magnetic strength. At least one sensor (16), detects variations in magnetic field density during sprocket rotation to monitor seat belt reeling. The buckle securely receives a latch plate (11a) attached to the seat belt. An actuator (22), coupled to a movable stopper (23) within the buckle passage (21), selectively blocks latch plate insertion. A control unit (103) triggers actuator, unblocking the buckle passage upon detecting a predefined seat belt length deployment. Figure 1 and 2 is the represenative figure.
