Abstract: The present disclosure provides a device (100) and a method (300) to treat gas released from a sanitation structure (126). The device includes a housing (106) of an internal cross-sectional area greater than a bore area (124-2) of a vent pipe (124), a distributor plate (116), a cartridge (114) with an adsorbent bed (114-6) below a biofilter bed (114-2), a support plate (114-4), an annular seal (120), and a condensate channel (118). The device (100) treats the gas across a full bed face under a stack- effect driving pressure alone, with cartridge exchange at ground level. Unlike conventional vent inserts that pack media into a narrow bore, where the gas bypasses the media through a central column, this sealed-cartridge approach confines the flow path and sustains bed moisture at septic tanks and pit latrines.
