Abstract: The described technology pertains to industrial safety advancements, specifically a smart safety helmet designed for mining and hazardous environments. The helmet incorporates an ESP32 microcontroller, MQ2 and MQ135 gas sensors, a temperature sensor, accelerometer module, microphone module, push-button, SOS button, GPS module, and local signalling elements (LEDs and buzzer). This technology addresses the technical challenge of real-time monitoring and emergency communication in GPS-deprived areas by employing received signal strength indicators (RSSI) from Wi-Fi access points for indoor localisation, without relying on time-offlight or dedicated ranging hardware. Sensor data, location information, and emergency alerts are transmitted via MQTT in JSON format to a monitoring server for real-time dashboard display. Applications include ongoing environmental and physical-status monitoring, zone classification, and emergency response. One-way audio capture is facilitated through pushbutton activation. The system provides a cost-efficient, integrated approach to enhancing worker safety and situational awareness in mining and other hazardous industries.
