Abstract: The present invention relates to a mechanical crude oil-water separation system designed to remove floating oil from water surfaces using a rotating disc adhesion mechanism. Oil spills and oily wastewater pose serious environmental and industrial challenges, requiring cost-effective and eco-friendly separation technologies. The proposed system provides a simple, low-cost, and chemical-free solution suitable for small-scale and localized applications. The apparatus comprises a contafnment tank for holding the oil-water mixture, a direct current (DC] motor, a rotating disc mounted on the motor shaft, a scraper plate, a collection vessel, and a power supply unit.' The rotating disc is positioned such that a portion of it remains partially immersed at the oil-water interface. Upon activation, the disc rotates and collects floating crude oil due to the natural adhesion property of oil and the density difference between oil and water. ! The adhered oil is then mechanically removed from the disc surface by a stainless-steel scraper plate and directed into a collection container for recovery. The system operates without chemical dispersants, burning processes, or complex filtration mechanisms, thereby minimizing secondary pollution. Motor speed can be adjusted to optimize oil CM E o collection efficiency while maintaining minimal disturbance to the water layer. The co o in o (D O Tf CD CM O cs 55 o CD CM O CM I invention is portable, reusable, and scalable, making it suitable for environmental cleanup, laboratory demonstration, and preliminary industrial wastewater treatment. Overall, the proposed invention offers a sustainable and economical approach for mechanical oil recovery using basic electromechanical components and fundamental fluid separation principles.
