MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611062161 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Roorkee on May 15, 2026, for A Reinforced Bio-Hybrid Epoxy Composites With Abrasion And Swelling Resistance And Its Method Of Preparation.

Inventors include Prof. Gaurav Manik; Dr. Anurag Kulshreshtha; Dr. Sangita Tripathy; and Mr. Arpit Dubey.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a bio-based carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite comprising epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) as a plasticizer and silicon carbide (SiC) particles as reinforcement. The composite is prepared using a hand lay-up and compression molding technique. The optimized composition of 20 wt.% ESO and 1–5 wt.% SiC results in enhanced thermal conductivity, reduced swelling in seawater conditions, and improved abrasion resistance. The invention provides a sustainable and high-performance material suitable for marine and structural applications.
