MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611030478 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on March 13, 2026, for A Rechargeable Zinc Air Battery.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a rechargeable zinc air battery. The rechargeable zinc air battery is comprising of an acrylic sheet (1); an anode (2); an electrolyte chamber (3) having an electrolytic solution; a plurality of screws (4); a cathode (5); and an air vent (6). The cathode (5) is an air cathode that formed of a cobalt vanadium oxide supported on multiwalled carbon nanotube (Co- VO@MWCNT) that serves as bifunctional electrocatalyst for both oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The rechargeable zinc air battery shows a high specific capacity ranging from 801 to 805 mAh gZn-1 with the outstanding energy density ranging from 929 to 933 Wh kgZn-1, enables higher energy density and stable output that provides consistent power for demanding applications.
