Abstract: 4 The present invention relates to a rear-side awareness spectacle (100) configured to 5 provide rear and side visual awareness to a wearer while maintaining normal forward 6 vision. The spectacle (100) comprises a frame (102) holding a pair of lenses (104-1, 104- 7 2) for forward viewing and at least one removable peripheral reflection unit (106) 8 mounted at a temporal corner region of a corresponding lens. The peripheral reflection 9 unit (106) includes a reflection element (108) positioned to specularly redirect light 10 incident from a rear-side direction toward the wearer’s eye to provide rear-side visibility. 11 A light-blocking housing (110) comprising a structural shroud (112) and a baffle wall 12 (114) surrounds the reflection element (108) to reduce glare by blocking light from 13 vertically elevated directions while allowing light from generally horizontal rear-side 14 directions. The peripheral reflection unit (106) occupies only a corner portion of the lens 15 and is retro-fittable and completely removable, allowing the spectacle to function as 16 normal eyewear when the unit is removed.
