Abstract: TITLE OF THE INVENTION A PSYCHO-SPIRITUAL GROUP INTERVENTION FOR FOSTERING SELFTRANSCENDENCE AND GRACE THROUGH PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION AMONG CATHOLIC YOUNG ADULTS ABSTRACT The present invention provides a structured psycho-spiritual intervention designed to promote self-transcendence through preparation for the sacrament of confession and to examine the role of grace in predicting self-transcendence and change following the intervention among Catholic young adults. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control-group design was utilized with 60 Catholic young adults, aged between 18 and 30 years, who were recruited from four parishes of the Mandya Diocese. The participants were divided into an experimental and a control group where the former received a psycho-spiritual intervention. Grace and selftranscendence were measured using the Dimensions of Grace Scale and Questionnaire on Selftranscendence. The results revealed that the experimental group had a significant increase in grace and self-transcendence, whereas, in the control group, there was a rise in grace accompanied by a decrease in self-transcendence. It was also found that both grace and selftranscendence had significant Time x Group interactions. Moreover, it was found that post-test grace predicted self-transcendence in the experimental group by accounting for 75.7% of the variance. The findings suggested that the intervention could promote self-transcendent change.
