Abstract: TITLE: A PROCESS OF PREPARATION OF HERBAL HYDROGEL ISLAND PATCH FOR DIABETIC WOUND HEALING APPLICANT: MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process for preparing an herbal hydrogel island patch for diabetic wound healing. The process comprises collecting and shade-drying fresh Piper betle leaves, powdering and subjecting the powder to cold maceration using a hydroalcoholic solvent, followed by filtration to obtain an extract. The extract is fractionated with ethyl acetate by liquid-liquid partitioning and concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain a bioactive extract. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginate are dispersed in distilled water to form a polymeric matrix. The bioactive extract is incorporated with propylene glycol, liquid paraffin, and Span 80 to form an oil phase, which is emulsified with an aqueous Tween 80 phase. The resulting emulsion is blended with the polymeric matrix, followed by freeze-thaw cycling and drying to form a hydrogel patch. The patch is mounted on a breathable waterproof polyurethane film with a silicone adhesive border and packaged in moisture-resistant containers.
