Abstract: TITLE: A PROCESS OF PREPARATION OF CHITOSAN NANOSPHERE- BASED PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR TARGETED PERIODONTAL THERAPY APPLICANT: 1. MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH 2. MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process of preparation of pharmaceutical composition for targeted periodontal therapy comprising: a. dissolving chitosan in acetic acid aqueous solution under magnetic stirring to obtain a chitosan solution; b. adding hydroethanolic extract of Paspalum scrobiculatum seeds prepared by macerating powdered seeds in ethanol, followed by filtration into the chitosan solution under continuous stirring to form a homogeneous mixture; c. crosslinking the mixture by dropwise followed by addition of sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) aqueous solution under controlled stirring to obtain stable chitosan nanospheres encapsulating the Paspalum scrobiculatum extract; d. collecting the formed nanospheres by centrifugation, washing with deionized water, and re suspending in Carbopol gel (predetermined carbopol gel in deionized water neutralized with triethanolamine) to obtain pharmaceutical composition. The present invention also discloses a pharmaceutical composition for targeted periodontal therapy, prepared by the process as described above.
