Abstract: TITLE: A PROCESS OF PREPARATION OF A CORN FLOUR-BASED BIOPLASTIC TOOTHBRUSH APPLICANT: 1. MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH 2. MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention shall discloses a process of preparation of a biodegradable toothbrush comprising: a. mixing DI water, corn starch, vinegar, and glycerin to form a homogeneous mixture; b. heating the homogeneous mixture under controlled conditions until gelatinization occurs and a transparent gelatinized gel is formed, in which the gelatinization temperature is maintained at predetermined temperature with continuous stirring to prevent lump formation; c. pouring the gelatinized gel into a toothbrush handle mold and allowing to dry until hardening occurs, thereby forming a corn flour based bioplastic handle having a head region with pre formed cylindrical cavities; and d. attaching bristles to the corn flour based bioplastic handle by mechanical insertion into the pre formed cavities in the head region with an insertion force, followed by thermal sealing or alternatively adhesive bonding using an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution, to obtain a biodegradable toothbrush.
