MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421073056 A) filed by Gpc Lifesciences Private Limited on September 27, 2024, for A Process For The Synthesis Of Acetaminophen.
Inventors include Golak Chandra Maikap; and Purna Chandra Ray.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for the preparation of N-Acetyl-para-aminophenol. The process comprises mixing para-aminophenol with solvent at predetermined conditions. The solvent is a mixture of acetic acid in its ester, wherein the ester selected from at least one alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloaryl, aryl alkylester; and a combination thereof. The crude product is purified by removal of solvent under reduced pressure, followed by recrystallization and precipitation. The process meets green chemistry criteria, making solvent recovery an environmentally preferred choice over disposal or incineration of the corrosive substances. Also, the process involves a highly selective reaction without conventionally known acid anhydride and metal as reagents for obtaining acetaminophen of high yield and purity.
