Inventors include Dr. Seenivasan Ayothiraman; Dr. Sathieesh Sounderarajan; Dr. Padmanaban Velayudhaperumal Chellam; and Mr. Debaditya Sinha.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT A process for producing hydroxyapatite from shrimp shell waste is disclosed. The cleaned, dried and sieved shell is deproteinized biologically in a bioreactor by Bacillus velezensis, which elaborates a protease in situ, the protein hydrolysate and carotenoids being recovered as co-products. The deproteinized shell is calcined at 5 degrees Celsius per minute to 800 degrees Celsius for 2 hours to give a calcium oxide precursor, which is hydrated, heated to 80 degrees Celsius and treated dropwise with ammonium phosphate to a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 1.67 at pH 10. The precipitate is aged 24 hours, filtered, washed, dried and calcined at 800 degrees Celsius, giving crystalline hydroxyapatite in 66.4 percent recovery. Plant growth promoting, silver doped antimicrobial and lead adsorbent compositions are also disclosed. The figure associated with abstract is fig.1
