Abstract: The present disclosure provides a process for processing a biomass for producing biofuel is disclosed. Said process comprises the steps of feeding the biomass to an inlet zone of an extrusion apparatus. The extrusion apparatus comprises an extrusion barrel having two parallel intersecting bores of equal diameter, a first screw coupled to a first shaft and disposed in a first bore and a second screw coupled to a second shaft disposed in a second bore, the screws being intermeshing. Next, the biomass is conveyed from the inlet zone to a processing zone of the extrusion apparatus. In the processing zone, the biomass is subjected to mechanical shear and heat sufficient to reduce particle size of the biomass and disrupt a fibre structure of the biomass. The processed biomass is continuously discharged from a discharge zone of the extrusion apparatus. The processed biomass has a D90 particle size of less than 15 mm, and a floating mass percentage of less than 10wt.%.
