MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641101768 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on August 23, 2026, for A Process For Preparing Seaweed-Derived Chitosan-Proline Nanoencapsulated Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles.

Inventors include Saiyyeda Firdous; and Jennifer Flora G.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing seaweed-derived chitosan–proline nanoencapsulated zinc oxide nanoparticles. The process comprises synthesizing zinc oxide nanoparticles through green synthesis using Sargassum wightii seaweed extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent, preparing a chitosan solution, dispersing and ultrasonically treating the synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles, gradually incorporating the nanoparticle dispersion into the chitosan solution, adding an aqueous proline solution, and introducing sodium tripolyphosphate to ionotropically cross-link the chitosan, thereby encapsulating the zinc oxide nanoparticles and proline within a biodegradable polymeric matrix. The process further comprises pH adjustment, ultrasonication, centrifugation, washing, drying, and pulverization to obtain the nanoencapsulated particles. The sequential integration of green synthesis and ionotropic gelation provides a reproducible process for preparing seaweed-derived chitosan–proline nanoencapsulated zinc oxide nanoparticles.
