Abstract: The present invention provides a process for preparing 3,5-difluoro-2-pyridinecarboxamide (compound E), which comprises a step of subjecting 3,5-difluoro-2- pyridinecarbonitrile (compound D) to hydrolysis. The resulting compound D can be used as an intermediate in preparation of 2-amino-3,5-difluoropyridine. The process is characterized by a high purity and yield and is suitable to be used in large scale production.
