Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for preparation of lithium iron phosphate. The process for preparation of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP), by mixing a lithium salt, an iron salt, and a phosphate salt in a molar ratio in the range of 1.2:1.2:1.2 to 0.8:0.8:0.8, in an aqueous fluid medium, under stirring to obtain a reaction mixture, a co-solvent is added therein to obtain a suspension with a pH of 0.9 to 1.1, a gelling agent is added to the suspension, to obtain a gelatinous mixture having a pH of 8 to 9; and the gelatinous mixture subjected to a hydrothermal treatment in an autoclave having a Teflon lining, at a temperature in the range of 160 °C to 200 °C to obtain a slurry comprising Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP).
