Abstract: ABSTRACT Title: A Process for Carbon Enrichment of Low-Grade Bituminous Coal Using a Binary System of Deep Eutectic Solvent The present invention relates to a process for carbon enrichment of low-grade bituminous coal using a binary system of deep eutectic solvent (DES). The invention encompasses the preparation of a DES comprising choline chloride, glycerol, and iron (III) chloride (FeCl3) at a temperature of 40-80 °C. The DES solution is used as a green-washing solvent for raw coal to enrich its carbon content. The structure, carbon content, calorific value, and other parameters of the raw and washed coal are characterised using various analytical methods. The structural nature of coal was found to be polycrystalline with distinctive peaks of carbon (C1) and oxide minerals. The carbon content in the collected low-grade bituminous coal samples was found to increase after treating with prepared binary deep eutectic solvent system. The ash and moisture content of raw coal were also decreased after washing. The gross calorific value (GCV) increased after washing with a binary system of DES. The invention highlights the process of non-hazardous and non-corrosive washing of coal and its effectiveness in enrichment of carbon content, meeting demands for high-carbon precursors in diverse applications.
