Abstract: A PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR RECOVERY OF FERRIC OXIDE FROM SPENT PICKLING LIQUOR (SPL) ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to a process (100) and system for recovery of ferric oxide from spent pickling liquor (SPL). The process comprises subjecting 500–1500 mL of SPL containing ferrous chloride (110) to an oxidation step (120) in an acidic medium at a pH of 1–5 and a temperature of 15–40 °C for 15–60 minutes using an advanced oxidation system comprising ozone or a combination of ozone and ultraviolet radiation to convert ferrous ions (Fe²?) to ferric ions (Fe³?), wherein ozone is supplied in an amount of 0.3– 0.5 mole equivalents relative to ferrous iron. The oxidised SPL is neutralised with at least one alkaline reagent to precipitate an iron-containing compound (130), followed by heating the precipitate at 60–120 °C for 12–18 hours to obtain ferric oxide (140). The ferric oxide is separated, and treated water is recovered for reuse (150), the process producing ferric oxide substantially free from ferrous phases. FIG: 2
