MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611093029 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on July 31, 2026, for A Predictive Carbon-Aware Workload Migration Engine (pcawme).

Inventor includes Dr. Shally Vats.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a predictive carbon-aware workload migration engine (PCAWME) that continuously monitors real-time and forecast electricity grid carbon intensity data across multiple cloud regions and providers, and autonomously migrates running workloads to the lowest-carbon available infrastructure while respecting user-defined constraints on latency, cost, and service continuity. The engine comprises a carbon intelligence layer module continuously ingests real-time carbon intensity data from multiple sources including national and regional grid operators, third-party carbon signal APIs such as Electricity Maps and WattTime, and cloud provider sustainability dashboards; a workload profiler and monitor maintains a continuously updated profile of every workload running across the managed cloud infrastructure; a multi-constraint optimization solver runs on a configurable interval default every fifteen minutes and solves a multi-objective optimization problem that simultaneously minimizes carbon intensity of the hosting region, minimizes migration cost and performance disruption, and satisfies hard constraints on latency, data residency, budget ceilings, and SLA requirements; a live migration orchestrator executes approved migrations without interrupting running workloads; a policy and constraint engine allows operators and enterprises to express their migration preferences and hard boundaries in a declarative policy language; and an immutable audit and reporting module that allows enterprises to generate ESG compliance reports showing verified carbon savings over any time period, broken down by workload, region, cloud provider, or business unit. The predictive carbon-aware workload migration engine enables enterprises to reduce the carbon footprint of cloud computing operations, facilitate compliance with ESG objectives and sustainability regulations, and reduce dependence on carbon-offset mechanisms by achieving measurable emissions reductions through intelligent workload migration, without requiring modifications to existing application code.
